This Whooping Crane Photo Tour takes place from a boat that is configured for photographers and offers you opportunities to get great shots of endangered Whooping Cranes wintering at the Texas Gulf. The tallest bird in North America, the whooping crane breeds in the wetlands of Wood Buffalo National Park in northern Canada and spends the winter on the Texas coast at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Rockport. Whooping cranes begin their fall migration south to Texas in mid-September and begin the spring migration north to Canada in late March or early April. This Whooping Crane Photo Tour takes place from a boat that is configured for photographers and offers you opportunities to get great shots of endangered Whooping Cranes wintering at the Texas Gulf. This photo tour is very popular so, if you’re interested, I suggest that you sign up early! You can register and pay online!
I have room for just four (4) photographers to join me as we watch and photograph the endangered cranes.
The Whooping Crane Photo Tour includes 4-6 hour photo shoot from a boat during which, we’ll work on creating images of the Whooping Cranes of Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. We will have multiple opportunities for shooting a variety of photographs of this fascinating species as well as other birds. Our experienced boat captain knows how to  get us up-close and personal with the birds.
Then, we will take a break and reconvene for an afternoon photo walk in and around Rockport and/or Port Aransas where we could see colorful shrimp boats, the marina, Brown and White Pelicans, Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Ibis, Forster’s Tern, Black Skimmers, Roseate Spoonbills, American Oystercatchers, shorebirds, and more.

The boat leaves from the Rockport area about ½ hour before sunrise so you’ll want to stay in Rockport for the weekend. Lodging is not included in the tour.

TOUR  INCLUDES:
ONE 4-6 HOUR BOAT-BASED PHOTO SHOOT  with an optional afternoon/evening photo walk.

Spend 4-6 hours in the morning with professional wildlife photographer, Texas Master Naturalist, and Certified Wildlife Guide Dr. Carol Fox Henrichs, and Captain Kevin Sims aboard the Jack Flash. We will focus on capturing images of the endangered Whooping Cranes and look for opportunities to shoot other subjects as well. The boat leaves  ½ hour before sunrise so please arrive 15 minutes early in order to allow time to load our gear. Then, later in the evening, feel free to join me for a photo walk in and around Rockport where you can take photos of shrimp boats, the marina, Brown Pelicans, wading birds, gulls  and more. We provide bottled water and there is a port-a-potty on board. Feel free to bring whatever else you like to eat and drink. Early Morning can be chilly if not cold even in South Texas. I recommend that you dress in layers. A warm pair of shoes as well as gloves is a good idea. Sun block and a hat or cap is always a good idea.

TOUR DOES NOT INCLUDE: Meals, lodging, or transportation to and from workshop. We’ll rely on car-pooling for our afternoon photo excursions in and around Rockport
